I’m having a bit of a lucky time over the last few weeks. I’ve found a rare porcelain clock from the 1830s, a pristine Bakelite/brass Art Deco clock from the 1930s, and a museum-quality Swiss lapis lazuli clock from the 1960s.

Only the Art Deco clock was recognized as a possibly valuable item. The porcelain clock was dismissed as damaged and the Swiss clock was thrown in with two much less valuable clocks. I was proud that my “trained eye” caught them.
TICK TOCK 1
Let’s start with the Looping Swiss clock because I almost completely missed this one in an auction. It was in a box with two German battery clocks from the 1980s, clocks that didn’t catch my eye, and the little clock was almost hidden.

First look at the clock in my kitchen on a rainy day, not much daylight.
Even after winning the three clocks with a very low bid, I didn’t know what I had. I carried the small box to the car, my wife was driving, and put the box carefully in the trunk of her car. She started the car and was ready to back out, but the weight of the side of the box with the little clock was so much heavier than the two other bigger clocks.
I had to look at it more carefully. I picked it up and it was very heavy, dense. I saw a solid brass case and a blue face with sparkles of gold in it. It was beautiful. I wrapped it and left it in the trunk. I didn’t want my wife to put the car in reverse and run over me, so I decided to inspect it more closely later 😃
